I was wrong

I said it wasn't a hanging offence but I was wrong.

Note to self: be very cautious about alluding to overseas research that NZ women in particular do not want to hear about. Be very careful not to make attempts to 'explain' something come across as, or be interpreted as, attempts to 'justify' it.

Second thoughts, just keep your damn trap shut.

Then again, no-one can sack me.

Lindsay; your sentiments were right, you just misread the outcome. Feminism is too deeply entrenched in NZ for men to be allowed to speak out. This little incident will prompt even more young, intelligent males to pack their bags and (rightly) leave our shores. A life of slavery to a feminist state is a prospect no thinking male aspires to.

Bah. I'm writing a column for next week's NBR on the wage gap and international evidence. Hoorah tenure!

The irony here is everyone is now openly talking about the issue in a no holds barred way. I suspect Thompson has paid the ultimate price for his point of view. Its not so much what he said. But that he was the first to say it.

its similar to Paul Holmes "Cheeky darky" quip some years ago. the politicaly correct were horrified and Holmes was pilloried for it. But the "Cheeky Darky" comment became part of our daily conversation. Again it wasnt what he said but that he was the first to say it.

Interesting that I have seen no rampant media out cry about the Bach allegations.

Then again she is a woman so `nothing to see here - move on'.

My first thought when reading about the state services boss giving the bash to one of her underlings was "I would'nt mind being bashed by her" But then I'm a sucker for punishment....

Dirk, Is your own old lady that bad?
Or perhaps not bad enough...

Your passing fancies probably have little relevance to the trivial reality of this altercation. Desperate media I think. Wait and see.
