What's wrong with Win-a-wife competition?

The kerfuffle around a radio station's Win-a-wife competition continues with the Hand Mirror linking to a facebook campaign. Sue Bradford climbed out of her tree over the issue also.

I am assuming that there are women who want to find husbands outside of their own country. Their reasons are their own business. Why is it feminists don't support the freedom of other women to make their own choices? These women might be intent on exploiting the husband; he may be intent on exploiting her. But the attempt to prevent bad stuff destroys the opportunity to create good stuff. So in the final analysis it can only be left to individuals to make their beds and lie (or lie) in them.

This is what I abhor about feminism and other collectivisms. They pretend to more freedom but actually seek to lessen it.

Where is the feminist Facebook page for the 14 year old that got killed after 80 lashed for rape.

What's wrong with it?

Can you imagine a bloke turning up at home, and saying "Hi honey, guess what I've won. Can we keep it in the bedroom?"

Women aren't property to be won as a prize, and yes, I am aware that isn't the fine print of the promotion, but it certainly is the theme of it. It's evil and it's damaging.

Why any man would want to enter a competition to meet some lady from the Ukraine who wishes to marry is beyond me. Surely there is an available pool of screwed up feminazis in NZ that would just love to have a man to screech at and belittle?

Oh, I see---Marriage. Sorry.

I laughed at yesterday's Dom Post's editorial siding with the do-gooders.

How lower can this "very provincial" paper sink?

"Why is it feminists don't support the freedom of other women to make their own choices" Linday - feminism is all about choices.

What I fail to understand is how anyone cannot see something billed as "winning" a wife as anything other than reprehensible (apologies for multiple negatives).

How about the freedom from being regarded as an object? Something to be bought and sold? How about the freedom to express our views without being harrassed and threatened (as many have done)? How about the freedom of so many of these women - these people - to live their lives without bondage or servitude?

"The attempt to prevent bad stuff destroys the opportunity to create good stuff". So we should allow child abuse and pornography, yes? If you say "No", then all you have done is establish that there are some things we must prevent. You have only opened a question as to the extent we should strive to prevent "bad" things.

It is really funny how often we see the comment "blah blah freedom of speech blah blah so you should shut up and go away".

@CB: Why didn't you create one if you felt so strongly about it?

I think the Hand Mirror et al are simply being racist. They have no problem with speed dating or Dinner for Six. This is just Dinner for Six, but in the Ukraine.

Ukrainian women are not pushovers, and many are well educated, intelligent, and, yes, feminists. I think the Hand Mirror nazis think that they are being exploited because they are foreigners from a poor country. That is disgraceful bigotry in my opinion.
