A very angry community

This morning Paul Holmes was doing one of his question and answer routines which, for those who don't listen, is a monologue with himself. "Is there growing community anger about the Kahui twins?" "OhhhhYesss"

With the latest press conference this afternoon revealing the family met after the twins had been taken to hospital and collectively decided not to co-operate with police enquiries, the issue is approaching boiling point. Apparently Pita Sharples is trying to reason with them.

This tragedy is turning into a travesty. If justice gets an unobstructed view of what happened, their attitude isn't going to serve them well come sentence time. If the same information becomes public, I fear for the safety of the family.

Everyone at that meeting is guilty of obstructing a police investigation and perverting justice. Possibly also makes them a party to the killing.

If Pita Sharples can convince them to tell the truth the police should charge them all.

Enough! If any other group in society were to be identified as responsible for the overwhelming majority of child-abuse cases, there'd be hell to pay.
Again and again we hear that the majority of Maori are good parents and that may well be true, but there's obviously something in their culture that produces a level of savagery that's totally at odds with modern society.
This isn't the first time an investigation into child abuse has been met with a wall of silence--the Lillybing case is another and there are doubtless more.
I'll begin to respect Maori "culture" when Maori put an end to placing that culture above civilised, humane values.
