Judge not!

Chris Trotter, in today's Dompost, is in the pulpit asking who God would blame for the deaths of the Kahui twins. He uses this question to list everything he blames. To summarise;

- historical racism from journalists and politicians who casually referred to Maori as "niggers"
- cheap whiskey and syphilis brought by the European
- ingratitude to the 28th Maori Battalion
- state house ghettos
- booze barns
- envy and self-loathing due to TV advertising images of success and plenty in an ever-white world
- emulation of the black American underclass
- Rogernomics
- Tina
- cold-eyed and thin-lipped Winz workers
- unemployment
- theft of land last century, specifically that belonging to the Kahui's great-great-great-grandparents.
- P pushers

And finishes, Or would he whisper, softly:"Judge not, that ye not be judged."

Isn't Chris Trotter an atheist? It seems a bit strange that all his latest stuff over the last month in the Dom Post has been religious.

Belt, There Is No Alternative. Phrase associated with the economic reforms.

I make a very lame joke with my son who is always resisting his piano practice. I ask him if he knows why all his pieces end in "tina", Sonatina, Toccatina etc. Because ......

Lucyna, I thought Marxists were secular. But I guess using God as a literary convenience is OK. Trotter has been seriously sermonising of late. His style is almost grandiose. Yet if you see him on telly he doesn't come across that way. As a political commentator he is very useful.

I'll happily judge these people too, Brian.
Part of living as a member of society is the responsibility to judge the behaviour of other members of that society. Otherwise the whole thing falls apart.
No judgement=no standards.
